VANCOUVER, B.C. –
Ka'ala Tam lined a go-ahead 2-run double in a 7-run ninth inning outburst, as Oregon Tech salvaged the final game of a four-game series with British Columbia at Tourmaline West Stadium.
The Hustlin' Owls (16-8, 7-6 CCC) sent 12 batters to the plate in their final at bats of Game 2 to claim an 8-4 victory. UBC took today's opener, 11-6.
Trailing 4-1 with three outs remaining,
Julien Jones was hit by a pitch and
Tyler Horner walked.
Patrick Barry doubled down the left field line to score Jones, with courtesy runner
Brady Culp scoring on a wild pitch. Following a walk to
Korrey Siracusa, Tam lined a ball into the left field corner to plate two, giving Tech the lead.
Logan Macy would deliver a pinch-hit 2-run single and Jones lifted a sacrifice fly to cap the big inning.
Noah Loew was outstanding in his first start, allowing two runs on three hits in six innings, with
Riley Cronin earning the win in relief.
The T-Birds (15-9, 10-3) used a 13-hit attack to win Game 1, breaking the contest open with a 5-run fifth inning – including a bases-clearing double from David Draayers. OIT scored four times in the ninth inning to make the outcome close.
Horner was 3-for-4, with Tam, Jones and
Matthew Ortiz all posting two hits for the Owls.
OIT returns to the Basin next weekend – looking for good weather to open their home schedule on Saturday – hosting College of Idaho.
