KEIZER, Ore. –
Tyler Horner hit two homers and drove in five – becoming Oregon Tech's all-time hits and RBI leader, while
Patrick Barry set the NAIA West all-time hit streak record, as the Hustlin' Owls swept a doubleheader from Corban University at Volcanoes Stadium.
Isaac Hill tossed a complete game 5-hitter in a 12-2 victory in the opener, while the Owls (11-4, 4-2 CCC) scored a season-high in runs in an 18-9 win in the late game.
Horner broke the all-time hits record of 236 with a Game 1 single, while his 3-run homer in Game 2 surpassed the OIT RBI record of 161.
Barry recorded hits in both halves of the twinbill, pushing his hitting streak to 31 games – surpassing the NAIA West Coast record of 30 games, set by LC State's Justin Fuller in 2004.
In the opener, Tech scored in each of the seven innings of the run-rule victory over the Warriors (6-8, 2-4).
Julien Jones hit his league-leading seventh home run in the first – a 2-run blast – with
Matthew Ortiz doubling home a pair in the fourth, giving the Owls a 6-1 lead. OIT put the game away late, as
Dane Bradshaw hit a 3-run homer in the sixth and Horner launched a 2-run shot in the seventh.
Game 2 was all Tech, as an 8-run second inning broke open a 1-1 game.
Garrett Smith started the rally with his third homer of the year, Barry lined an RBI single, Horner blasted a 3-run homer onto Interstate-5 in right, with
Ka'ala Tam and
Ty Blakely adding run scoring hits.
Smith added an RBI single and Bradshaw doubled home a pair in a 5-run third, as the Owls built an 18-1 lead and cruised to the win.
Landon Cheney worked the first four innings, allowing a run on five hits, with
Alex Rodriguez tossing three shutout innings of relief to earn the win.
The two teams close out the series tomorrow with a single, non-conference game at 11 a.m.
