Late Home Run Sinks Hustlin' Owls in California

NEWHALL, Calif. – Zach Jenkins hit a go-ahead 2-run home run in the seventh inning, helping The Master's University to a come-from-behind 9-7 victory over Oregon Tech at Lou Herwaldt Stadium.

OIT (3-2) had leads of 5-2, 6-4 and 7-5 – but the Mustangs rode the strength of four home runs to earn the home win.

Ty Beck finished 3-for-4 with six RBI for the Mustangs (4-2) – hitting 2-run home runs in the first and third innings, while tying the game in the seventh with a 2-run single.

Tech rallied from the early 2-0 deficit – getting a second inning Patrick Barry RBI single to get on the board and grabbed the lead in the third on the strength of 2-run homers from Julien Jones and Garrett Smith.

Tyler Horner singled home a run n the fourth to give the Owls a 6-4 lead and Michael O'Daniel roped an RBI single in the seventh to push the lead to 7-5 – before Beck tied the score with the single and Jenkins untied the score with his blast.

OIT had chances late – putting runners at second-and-third with no outs in the eighth and had a runner aboard in the ninth – but were unable to score.

Barry finished 3-for-5, with Horner, Jones, O'Daniel and Korrey Siracusa each recording two hits. Horner recorded his 52nd career double – one off the OIT all-time record, with Siracusa reaching on a hit-by-pitch for the 40th time, setting a new school mark.

Jenkins was 2-for-3 in the win for TMU, with Isaiah Morales going 3-for-4 with four runs scored – including a fifth inning solo homer.

The Owls are scheduled to host Simpson in a 4-game weekend series – but with three feet of snow on the ground in the Klamath Basin – the game location and times will be determined during the week.
