SPRINGFIELD, Ore. –
Patrick Barry went 4-for-6, tying the all-time Cascade Conference hit-streak record, helping Oregon Tech salvage the final game of a 3-game series at Bushnell, claiming a 9-8 victory at Hamlin Sports Park.
Barry has hit safely in 28-straight games, dating back to last March – tying the mark established by College of Idaho's Dustin Garcia in 2003.
Keanu Mizuta was 4-for-5 with three RBI for the Owls (8-4, 1-2 CCC), becoming the 11th OIT player to record three doubles in a game. The senior got Tech on the board with an RBI single in the first, with
Garrett Smith plating a second run with a hit-by-pitch.
The Beacons (9-2, 2-1) evened the score in the third on an Ethan Stacy 2-run homer, but the Owls regained the lead in the sixth on a pinch-hit RBI single from
Landon Cheney.
After Bushnell tied the score in the bottom of the frame, Tech erupted for five runs in the seventh. Mizuta broke the 3-3 stalemate with a 2-run double, with the Owls taking advantage of three hit-by-pitches and a pair of walks to extend the lead to 8-3.
Bushnell countered against the OIT pen, as Will Hudler hit a 2-run homer in the seventh and the Beacons scored three unearned runs in the eighth to tie the score.
The Owls returned the favor in the ninth, as two Bushnell errors allowed
Michael O'Daniel to score the go-ahead run from third and
Noah Loew worked around a 1-out single in the bottom of the frame to secure the win.
Isaac Hill had a quality start for the Owls, going five-plus innings, holding the Beacons to four hits and two earned runs, fanning five.
Matthew Ortiz,
Julien Jones and
Tyler Horner each had two of OIT's 15 hits.
Tech heads back to the Valley next weekend to play a 4-game series at Corban – as the unplayable field conditions at Steen Sports Park has moved the set to Keizer (with the return series, April 18-19, to now be played in the Basin).
