Lady Owls Open Road Swing With Loss at #19 Cumberlands

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. – Tatum Schmerbach recorded her second-straight double-double, but No. 19 ranked University of the Cumberlands used a sizable 57-36 rebound margin to top Oregon Tech, 85-67.

The Patriots (7-1) rode a monster performance from 6-foot-5 post Zaram Fredricks, scoring 10 points, grabbing 17 rebounds and adding six blocked shots – as all five UC starters scored in double figures.

The hosts used a 12-3 run to end the first quarter to take a 25-12 lead, extending the margin to 43-22 following a steal and basket from Aden Clark.

The No. 15-ranked Lady Owls (3-1) battled back late in the half, as Olivia Sprague scored six-straight points and Schmerbach closed the half with a bucket, pulling OIT within 51-38.

UC opened the third quarter on a 9-0 run, getting consecutive lay-ups by Payton Mounce – but Tech had one final run, as Schmerbach had six points and Sprague made two free throws to cut the gap to 72-63. Tech, however, ended the game making just 1-of-10 field goals, as the Pats scored 13 of the final 17 points.

Schmerbach had 21 points and 11 rebounds, with Sprague scoring 16 – making 13-of-13 free throws, with Kendall Fealey scoring 10. OIT was limited to 33% shooting on the night.

The Lady Owls have two days off before meeting No. 6 ranked Freed-Hardeman on Saturday afternoon.
