Hustlin' Owls Play Corban to a 1-1 Senior Day Draw

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Playing his final game in the Basin, Patrick Chan played a perfect cross to Merrick Tambio for an equalizing goal, as Oregon Tech rallied in the second half for a 1-1 draw with Corban at the OIT Soccer Field.

Playing in optimal kite flying conditions, the wind hampered both teams attack, with the squads each posting eight total shots and a combined three shots on frame.

The Hustlin' Owls (6-4-5, 4-4-2 CCC) had chances early, earning five corner kicks in the first eight minutes – but mustered just two shot attempts.

On the flip side, Corban (4-8-4, 2-4-4 CCC) took their first shot with four minutes left in the period – as Gerardo Lopez played a low cross through traffic to the left corner of the box, with Joshua Holguin hammering home the sitter into the right corner of the net.

Tech tied it in the 55th minute, as Chan touched a shot cross to Tambio – who flicked home a low shot inside the right post to even the score.

The Owls were forced to play a defensive scheme with 29 minutes left after having a player sent off with a red card – but OIT withstood six shot attempts by the Warriors and a pair of corner kicks.

OIT had two chances to take the lead – as Cooper Hunt missed a header wide left off a long free kick and Anthony Aguiar Casillas missed a 25-yard shot high.

The draw helped the Owls move into a 3-way tie for sixth place in the league standings with one week remaining in the regular-season. OIT ends the season next weekend at Walla Walla and Warner Pacific.
