STERLINGTON, La. – Outstanding starting pitching from
Isaac Hill and
Cody Dubray helped Oregon Tech close out tournament play at the Cajun Collison with victories over Georgetown College and LSU Alexandria at the Sterlington Sports Complex.
The Hustlin' Owls (2-6) got four shutout frames from Hill in a 6-2 victory over GC, with Dubray allowing an unearned run in four strong innings in a 6-4 win over LSUA.
Hill limited the Tigers (3-2) to two hits and struck out five to pick up his first collegiate win – with
Landon Cheney earning the hold with two innings of work and
Riley Cronin fanning two in a scoreless seventh.
OIT broke a scoreless tie in the fifth, loading the bases with two outs.
Tyler Horner provided the big blow, gapping a bases-clearing double to left-center to give the Hustlin' Owls a 3-0 lead. An inning later, Tech got another 2-out knock, a 2-run double from
Julien Jones to extend the margin.
GC got a pair of runs back in the sixth on a Hank Schineller single, but Jones cut down a runner at the plate with a throw from right field to stop the rally.
Keanu Mizuta capped the OIT scoring effort, singling home a run in the seventh.
Both Mizuta and
Patrick Barry went 2-for-4 for the Owls, with Jarrett Chapman and Schineller recording two hits for the Tigers.
In the night game, the OIT offense staked Dubray to a 6-0 lead after two innings – as the lefty held the Generals (3-7) to three hits, striking out four.
Tim Williams earned the save with three innings of relief, allowing just one earned run.
Jones opened the scoring in the first with an RBI single, with a
Ka'ala Tam sacrifice fly making it 2-0. Tech batted around in the second, with Jones roping a 2-run single and Horner added a run-scoring single to extend the margin.
LSUA would score one in the fourth, a pair in the sixth, and a run in the seventh – but the Owls pitching kept the Generals at bay.
Jones had the lone multi-hit game for Tech, going 2-for-4, with Zach Mengarelli recording two hits and three runs scored for LSUA.
OIT returns to the Pacific Time Zone next week – traveling to California for a weekend set at Antelope Valley.
