MEDFORD, Ore. – A late flurry by Oregon Tech came up one goal short, as top-seed Carroll College eliminated the Hustlin' Owls from the Cascade Conference Championships, grabbing a 2-1 semifinal win at Wheeler Field.
Carroll (14-2-3) will meet the winner of Warner Pacific and Eastern Oregon in Thursday's finale, with Tech's season coming to close for the second-straight year in the CCC semifinals.
Trailing 2-0 with 10 minutes to play – the Hustlin' Owls (9-8-3) made it interesting.
Dalton Rideout lined a shot from inside the 6-yard-box off a quick touch from
Andrew Pasang to cut the deficit in half. Tech continued the pressure – pushing numbers forward – but late chances from
Cooper Hunt and
Manny Garcia missed just wide of the target.
OIT dominated the first 10 minutes, generating three quality scoring opportunities for Pasang – ripping a 20-yard one-timer in the sixth minute that missed just right, a 15-yard strike stopped by Fighting Saints keeper Juan Muniz Navarette in the eighth minute, with Navarette making a diving stop a minute later to keep the Owls off the board.
The Montana side took the lead in the 33rd-minute, as lined a one-time 15-yard drive into the net off a Caleb Hoxie cross, with the Saints doubling their lead in the 80th minute, as Matt Wigton touched home a rebound off an Alan Guiterrez shot.
The Owls finished with a 19-12 edge in shots and had four of the six corner kicks on the night.
