Hustlin' Owls Play Rival SOU to Physical 0-0 Draw

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Rivals Oregon Tech and Southern Oregon played 90 physical minutes on Senior Day, with both sides keepers making crucial saves in a 0-0 Cascade Conference men's soccer draw at the OIT Soccer Field.

The two teams combined for 45 fouls and a pair of cards, but the Owls (7-6-3, 4-4-3 CC) Ryan Solis and the Raiders Casey Ruvolo making four saves to earn clean sheets.

The No. 25-ranked Raiders (11-3-2, 8-1-2) fell out of first-place in the conference standings – as Solis made three stops in the opening 30 minutes. Off the first set piece of the day, Solis was in perfect position to turn away an Ariel De Dios Cruz header. In the 28th minute, the senior gloved a rocket from Kaito Nakayama, while two minutes later, a Cruz liner was redirected with spin towards the net-minder, with Solis making the awkward stop.

Tech turned the tide in the final 15 minutes of the match – getting the two best chances of the contest. In the 86th minute, Ruvolo was called for a handball just outside the area, giving the Owls a point-blank free kick. Lennyn Solis stepped up from 18-yards out and ripped a shot around a 7-player wall, clanging off the left post.

In the final 30 seconds, SOU pushed forward – but a through-ball off a counter-attack gave Dalton Rideout a 1-on-1 breakaway chance. However, Ruvolo stayed strong and stopped the 25-yard strike with a kick save, giving both teams one point in the league standings.

OIT finished the match with an 11-5 edge in total shots, with SOU taking four of the seven corner kicks.

The match marked the final home game for eight Hustlin' Owls players.

Tech hits the road to close out the regular-season with dates at Evergreen State and Northwest.
