KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Big nights from juniors
Savanna Sterck and
Willow Jacobson led Oregon Tech to a key sweep of Lewis-Clark State, posting a 26-24, 25-19, 25-17 victory at Danny Miles Court.
The win for the Lady Owls (14-10, 7-9 CCC) extended a home win streak to four, giving OIT a potential tiebreak edge on LCSC in the race for the Cascade Conference Tournament.
Tech limited the Warriors (11-10, 8-8) to a .127 attack percentage, with LCSC recording eight serving errors.
OIT started quickly in the opener, getting four kills from four different players in a 10-4 run. LCSC battled back, scoring eight of the next nine points – with the two teams combining for 10 ties before an Anna Merrill kill gave the visitors set point at 24-23. Following a timeout,
Molly Grace got OIT a side out, Sterck powered home a winner and an LC attack error gave the Owls a set win.
The Lady Owls never trailed in Set 2, bolting to a 10-3 lead behind three kills and two blocks from
Tiana Barrett. LCSC would chip away at the deficit, getting as close as 22-19 on a Juliauna Forgach Aguilar kill, but the Owls scored the final three points, with a Jacobson kill ending the set.
LCSC had the advantage early in Set 3, taking a 9-7 lead – but it was all OIT the rest of the way. Sterck and
Lucy Boyd each had two kills in a 7-0 run to regain the advantage, with the Owls ending the match on a 6-1 run.
Sterck recorded 12 kills and Jacobson added 10 kills and a pair of blocks in the victory. Grace had eight kills and 12 digs, Barrett had six kills and five blocks, with Boyd ending the afternoon with five kills, 34 assists, 10 digs and four blocks.
Forgach Aguilar led all players with 17 kills in a losing effort.
OIT hits the road next weekend with games in the Valley at Corban and Bushnell.
