Carly Moss anchored a dominant defensive performance and scored the lone goal of the match from the penalty spot, as Oregon Tech secured a key 1-0 Cascade Conference women's soccer win over Carroll College.
Facing a team receiving votes in the NAIA Top-25 Poll, the Lady Owls (10-4-1, 6-3 CCC) held the Saints to four shots on the afternoon – as OIT took over sole possession of second place in the league standings with two weeks remaining in the regular season.
Following a hard foul of
Kayla Ness in the box on a breakaway chance, Moss stepped to the forefront, driving home the 17th-minute penalty kick for the lead.
Moss and the defense did the rest, neutralizing the Saints (7-4-4, 4-3-2) attack that scored 42 goals through their first 14 matches.
Sydni Nakamura made a key save in the 31st minute, as off a free kick, Ella Kuenzli got a head on the service – but the OIT keeper was up to the task.
Tech controlled possession in the second half – with the final six minutes of the match spent in the Owls offensive half.
The hosts held a 10-4 edge in total shots, took five of the six corner kicks in the contest, with the physical match featuring 25 fouls.
OIT closes out their home schedule on Friday, hosting rival Southern Oregon at 12 p.m. – the final home game for the 12 seniors on the roster.
