Gascon Scores Career-High 25 in Road Loss at Eastern

LA GRANDE, Ore. – Gabbie Gascon scored a career-high 25 points, but it was not enough for Oregon Tech, as a big second half rally helped Eastern Oregon to a 72-63 victory over the Lady Owls at Quinn Coliseum.

The Lady Owls (17-2, 11-2 CCC) were in position to end an 11-game losing streak at EOU, taking a 15-point second quarter lead, but the Mountaineers connected on 8-of-15 3-point attempts after the break to rally for the win.

OIT ended the first quarter on a 10-0 run, as Gascon scored in transition and a pair of Alexis Elquist baskets gave the visitors a 29-19 lead. The run continued in the second quarter, as the Lady Owls extended the margin to 37-22 on a Gascon runner midway through the period.

The Mountaineers (13-5, 9-5) cut the deficit to 39-30 at the break and blitzed Tech to start the third quarter, scoring the first 11 points – fueled by 3-pointers from Macie Elliott and Bayley Brennan. Gascon converted a 3-point play late in the quarter to give OIT their final lead at 51-49, but Brennan hit her fifth triple of the half and Brie Holecek scored on consecutive possessions, part of a 10-2 fourth quarter run that put the game away.

The Lady Owls made 67-percent of their first half field goals, but were held to 9-of-33 shooting after the break. EOU finished the night with 13 made 3-point attempts.

Gascon was 9-of-12 from the field, adding four rebounds and three assists. Elquist scored 13 points and led Tech with eight rebounds.

Brennan scored 25 points and Holecek posted 14 points and seven rebounds for the Mountaineers.

OIT continues their 4-game road trip next weekend with games at Multnomah and Warner Pacific.
