LA GRANDE, Ore. –
Keegan Shivers recorded his fifth double-double of the season with 26 points and 11 rebounds, as Oregon Tech answered the call at Eastern Oregon, completing a season-sweep of the Mountaineers with an 82-71 victory at Quinn Coliseum.
A night after being held to 59 points at College of Idaho, the Hustlin' Owls (15-4, 10-3 CCC) responded at both ends of the floor – making 51-percent of their field goals, while holding the hosts to 33-percent shooting, including a 6-of-29 shooting night from 3-point range.
Shivers hit a pair of 3-pointers and
Kody Bauman converted back-to-back buckets in a game-opening 17-7 run for the Owls. EOU (8-12, 7-7) missed their first 11 3-point chances, but a Garrett Hawkes triple pulled the hosts within 23-20 with six minutes left in the half.
OIT responded in a big way, as Shivers scored eight points in a 15-2 run, capped by a
Jamison Guerra triple, extending the lead to 40-24.
Guerra gave the Owls their largest lead of the night with a second half 3-point play at 46-29, but the Mounties battled back. A.J. Huddleston hit two 3's and a Jonny Hillman lay-up ended a 19-4 run, cutting the OIT lead to 50-48.
Tech turned the tide over the next five minutes – as Bauman converted a 3-point play, with the ensuing 18-5 run, capped by a long Shivers 3-pointer, gave the visitors a 68-53 lead – with the margin staying in double-digits the rest of the way.
Shivers finished 6-of-10 from 3-point range and had a pair of assists, while Bauman scored 14 off the bench.
Erik Fraser scored 13 and
Kam Osborn, saddled with foul trouble all night, scored 11 – including three 3-pointers.
Hillman and Jaden Hansen each scored 17 and Hawks added 15 in the loss for Eastern.
The two teams combined for 48 fouls in the physical match-up.
OIT continues their 4-game road trip next weekend with games in Portland at Multnomah and Warner Pacific.
