Game Recap: Men's Baseball |

Six-Hit Day From Horner Not Enough For Tech at Jessup

LINCOLN, Calif. – Tyler Horner had a 6-hit day, but Oregon Tech could not hold leads in both games of today's doubleheader, as Jessup University completed a 4-game sweep of the Owls at McBean Park.

The Warriors (4-0) used a pair of 5-run innings in Game 1 to win, 14-9, while back-to-back homers in the sixth inning of Game 2 lifted the hosts to a 9-6 win.

In the opener, the first seven OIT (0-4) batters reached base, as run-scoring doubles from Julien Jones and Horner helped stake the visitors to a 4-0 lead. JU would tie the score over the next two innings, as a leadoff homer from Quenton Jones keyed a 3-run first and a Trey Furrey RBI double in the second made it 4-4.

The Owls regained the lead in the third on a long Ka'ala Tam 2-run homer, but 2-run singles from Connor Culp and Chris Lopez in a 5-run fourth gave the Warriors the lead for good.

Horner was 3-for-5 with two doubles, a homer and three RBI, with Keanu Mizuta going 2-for-3 with a homer in the loss. OIT pitchers surrendered 15 hits and combined to walk nine batters.

In Game 2, the Owls used a 5-run fourth inning to take a 6-3 lead. Matthew Lehrbach tied the score with a 2-run double and Patrick Barry cleared the bases with a 3-run homer. JU answered again, scoring single runs in the fourth and fifth, with Lopez and Brandon Springer starting the sixth with back-to-back homers to provide the winning margin.

Horner was 3-for-4 for Tech, with both Lehrbach and Korrey Siracusa recording two hits.

OIT will have next week off in preparation for the Cajun Collision, Feb. 9-10, in Sterlington, La.
