REDDING, Calif. –
Sydni Nakamura recorded a career-high eight saves in recording her sixth career clean sheet, as Oregon Tech and Simpson University played to a scoreless draw at the Simpson Soccer Field.
Nakamura faced 12 shots on a hot afternoon, making five stops in the opening half and adding three saves in the first 20 minutes of the second half.
While the Lady Owls (0-1-1) defense held the Redhawks without a goal – Tech was unable to crack the back of the net. OIT took five shots in the first 25 minutes of the match, including a
Kayla Ness chance in the third minute that was blocked by Brianna Whitehurst, with Shalynai Naputo hitting the rebound just high.
OIT had their best chance in the 48th minute, as a Naputi strike clanged off the crossbar. In the waning moments, the Owls had back-to-back corner kicks, but were unable to turn the set piece into a goal.
The Redhawks (1-1-1) held a 12-9 shot advantage, with both sides taking three corner kicks. Naputi led all players with four shot attempts, with five OIT players each taking one shot.
Tech returns home Sunday for a scrimmage vs. Rogue CC, before returning to countable games next Friday at Pacific University.
