Horner Named First-Team Academic All-American
Men's Baseball
June 07, 2023
AUSTIN, Texas – Oregon Tech third-baseman
Tyler Horner was honored today as a first-team College Sports Communicators (formerly CoSIDA) NAIA Baseball Academic All-America® selection.
The sophomore mechanical engineering major from Twin Falls, Idaho, becomes just the second OIT baseball player to earn the distinction and the first first-team pick, as pitcher Doug Molzahn earned second-team honors at the conclusion of the 2018 season.
To earn the distinction, a student-athlete must compete in more than 50-percent of the games during a season and be a starter or key reserve, be at least a sophomore in academic standing and maintain a 3.50 or greater cumulative grade point average. Those nominated by their school's sports information director and selected to their respective All-District team are placed on the final Academic All-America® ballot, in which a panel of SID's select the final 12-person first-team and 10-person second-team.
Horner was a key piece of the 2023 Hustlin' Owls team that won the Cascade Conference regular-season title and tied a school record with 33 victories – hitting .357 with five homers and 43 RBI, establishing a new single-season record by drawing 39 walks, earning first-team All-CCC honors. He was also previously honored as a member of the CCC All-Academic Team and named a NAIA Scholar-Athlete.
