CORVALLIS, Ore. – The 2023 Cascade Conference champion Oregon Tech baseball team was selected by the league athletic directors as winners of the CCC Team of Character/Sportsmanship Award, announced today by the league office.

Along with their record-setting season, the Hustlin' Owls gave back to the Klamath Falls community on-and-off the diamond.

The squad volunteered with the Klamath Falls County Schools – both as part of their elementary reading program and their welcoming program – lining the hallways in full uniform to greet students as they arrived for school.

In addition, players served as honorary coaches during the Fall Klamath Falls Little League Tournament.

"Our team built character from Day 1," said head coach Jacob Garsez. "Our players knew we had the ability to win, but being focused on improving our character and making decisions based on principles took the team to another level."

The Hustlin' Owls also strived in the classroom, finishing the Winter Term with a 3.43 cumulative grade point average.

"I am thrilled our baseball team is being recognized at the conference level for something we know to be true on our campus and within our community," said OIT athletic director John Van Dyke. "Coach Garsez has created a culture of servant-leadership, integrity and grit. The team is so fun to be around and I couldn't be more proud of how they represent Oregon Tech."

The Bushnell women's track and field team was also honored by the conference for their efforts on and off the track.
