Lady Owls Open Series in Washington With 7-1 and 7-2 Wins

BELLEVUE, Wash. – Zoe Allen combined to go 4-for-5 with four runs scored, helping Oregon Tech run their win streak to 10 with a doubleheader sweep at Northwest University.

Solid starts from Kacie Schmidt and Mckenzie Staub keyed the 7-1 and 7-2 victories, as the No. 1-ranked Lady Owls (22-5, 13-1 CCC) remained alone atop the league standings.

Allen got the day started with a walk in the first inning of Game 1, stealing second and scoring on a passed ball. The Eagles (15-14, 7-9) pulled even on a second inning Cadella Ritchie single, but OIT capitalized on four NU errors – including a wild throw with the bases loaded in the third, allowing the Owls to clear the bags and give the visitors a 4-1 lead.

Run-scoring singles from Allen and Jayce Seavert capped the scoring in the opening.

Schmidt tied a career-high with 11 strikeouts, holding NU to five hits.

OIT used a 6-run third inning in Game 2 to break the contest wide open. The Owls loaded the bases with one out, taking the lead when Seavert was hit by a pitch. Buckholz followed with a 2-run double and Puakea Milbourne capped the rally with a 3-run home run.

It was more than enough for Staub, holding the Eagles to two runs on eight hits, fanning six, picking up her tenth win. Allen was 3-for-3 and Milbourne was 2-for-3 in the victory.

The two teams close out the series tomorrow with an 11 a.m. doubleheader at Bellevue High.
