KIRKLAND, Wash. – Oregon Tech withstood a cold shooting night by outscoring Northwest University 30-8 at the charity stripe, as the No. 24-ranked Hustlin' Owls improved to 4-0 on the road with a 79-68 victory over the Eagles inside Brodin Pavilion.
Tech (7-2, 2-1 CCC) won for the third-straight time on NU's home floor – the first 3-game win streak inside the smallest arena in the Cascade Conference in program history. In addition, the victory marked the 150th in
Justin Parnell's eight seasons at the helm of the OIT program.
Blake Jensen led all scorers with 20 points – including 5-straight points in a 12-2 Hustlin' Owls run in the first half that broke a 20-20 deadlock.
OIT was never able to put away the Eagles (2-7, 1-3), as a triple from Antonio Salinas cut the gap to 58-54 inside the final six minutes. After missing their first 12 3-point attempts in the game,
Keegan Shivers put the Owls on his back, connecting on three triples in an 11-4 run late in the contest that put the game out of reach.
Shivers finished with 14 points and the squad's only three made 3-pointers – helping the Owls extend their consecutive games with a made 3-pointer streak to 992. Both
Kam Osborn and
Erik Fraser tallied 10, with
Yanni Fassilis scoring eight and adding a career-high eight rebounds. OIT lived at the foul line, taking a season-high 39 free throw attempts, making 30.
Milton Burnett scored 14 to lead NU, with Luke Howard and Lewis Pope each scoring 11.
The Owls close out the weekend trip tomorrow with a 5 p.m. date at Evergreen State.
