Sprague Game-Winner Lifts Lady Owls Past #18 Eastern

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Olivia Sprague drained a 10-foot jumper in the lane with three seconds remaining, as Oregon Tech topped No. 18-ranked Eastern Oregon for the first time since 2019 – a 68-67 victory at Danny Miles Court.

The Lady Owls (6-0, 1-0 CCC) used a dominating 47-36 edge on the glass against the No. 1-ranked rebound team in the Cascade Conference and held the defending league champions to a 37-percent shooting night – including 2-of-14 shooting from 3-point range after halftime.

EOU (4-1, 0-1) rallied from a 39-34 deficit at the break with a big third quarter, using a 7-0 run to take a 50-48 lead – extending the margin to 53-48 on a Kelsey Siegner triple. Tech responded, as a banked-in triple from Kennedy Tull gave the hosts the lead back at 56-55, with a Tull runner off an offensive rebound pushing the edge to 66-63 with three minutes left.

The visitors battled back, as Brie Holecek converted on the block with 51 seconds remaining to give the Mounties a 67-66 lead. Both teams traded empty possessions, setting the stage for Sprague, who drove into the paint, elevating in traffic – converting to give OIT the lead.

Eastern had one last chance, but an inbound pass was intercepted by Tatum Schmerbach and the Owls were able to run the clock out.

Gabbie Gascon led Tech with 16 points – including a big 3-pointer in a 13-2 second quarter run – that gave the Lady Owls their largest lead of the night at 37-28. Sprague finished with 15 points, seven rebounds and five assists, with Jozie Ramos scoring all 10 of her points in the first half. Tull had nine points and Schmerbach added six points and a career-high 12 rebounds.

Holecek tallied 23 points in the loss for EOU, with Siegner adding 13 points off the bench. Tech held the Mounties All-America forward, Beverly Slater to eight points and seven rebounds – well below her seasonal averages.

The win for the Lady Owls was their first against a Top-25 opponent since a road win at Bushnell during the 2019-20 season.

OIT closes out the homestand tomorrow afternoon, hosting College of Idaho at 3 p.m. – live on 104.3 & 960 Sports.
