Osborn Scores 26, Hustlin' Owls Stop EOU, 84-74

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – A career night from Kam Osborn coupled with a 57-percent shooting effort led Oregon Tech to an 84-74 victory over Eastern Oregon in the Cascade Conference opener for both schools.

The Hustlin' Owls (6-1, 1-0 CCC) ran their win streak to four, making 7-of-11 3-point baskets in the second half – avenging three losses to their in-state rivals from last season.

"Kam carried us all night, he is such a shotmaker," said OIT head coach Justin Parnell. "When he gets going like that, he is so tough to guard. He was impressive."

Osborn made five of his first six field goal attempts – including a driving lay-up that broke a 19-19 first half tie – jumpstarting a 12-2 run, capped by back-to-back Jay Elmore 3-pointers.

Tech led 38-30 at the break, but the Mountaineers (1-5, 0-1), picked second in the CCC preseason poll, hung around. An Adam Orr 3-pointer got the visitors within 57-52 – one of three times in the second half EOU cut the deficit to five.

OIT had an answer to each Eastern rally – as Jamison Guerra banked in a 35-foot 3-pointer and Keegan Shivers canned a contested trey, both as the shot clock expired – with Osborn providing the dagger, a corner triple with a minute left to extend the lead to 82-72.

The Owls finished 32-of-56 from the field – including 10-of-20 from 3-point range – Tech's second straight shooting night above 57-percent.

Osborn made 9-of-14 field goals, including three 3-pointers, as part of his 26-point night, with Guerra scoring 14 points with nine assists. Blake Jensen finished with 12 points and nine rebounds, Elmore scored 10 off the bench, with Shivers scoring five points, with 11 rebounds and four assists.

Garrett Hawkes led the Mounties with 22 points, with Brennen Newsome going a perfect 6-of-6 from the field, finishing with 14 points and six rebounds.

Tech closes out the homestand tomorrow, hosting No. 2-ranked College of Idaho at 5 p.m. – live o 92.5 KLAD-FM.
