ASHLAND, Ore. –
Olivia Sprague converted five 3-pointers, part of a 21-point night, leading Oregon Tech to a 77-51 victory over Simpson University in Game 1 of the Raider Invitational at Lithia Motors Pavilion.
The Lady Owls (2-0) held the California squad to 25-percent shooting from the field, using a 49-38 rebound edge in the lopsided win. It marked the fourth time in program history that OIT has recorded consecutive wins by 25-points or more (2011, 2012, 2021).
Tech scored 27 points of Redhawks (0-2) turnovers, posted 19 assists on 23 made field goals, while converting 17-of-20 free throws in the second half.
OIT never trailed in the contest, as Sprague connected on a pair of 3-pointers in a 14-4 first quarter run that built the Owls a 20-9 lead. SU cut the margin to 23-15 on a Rachel Gafford 3-pointer, but Sprague answered with a triple and three free throws – as the lead never fell below double-digits the rest of the night.
Simpson was within 58-42 in the fourth quarter, but the Owls rattled off 12-straight points – including a 3-pointer from
Kennedy Tull and a pair of
Alexis Elquist buckets – putting the game away.
Sprague added six rebounds and five assists in the victory, with Elquist scoring 10 points with eight rebounds and Tull chipping in 10.
Gabbie Gascon finished with 12 points and six rebounds and
Tatum Schmerbach ending the night with six points, seven rebounds and five assists.
Hannah Parsons led SU with 12 points.
The Lady Owls close out tournament play tomorrow afternoon, meeting Hope International at 4:30 p.m.
