SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – Two goals inside the final six minutes of the second overtime lifted Oregon Tech to a 3-1 victory over Carroll College in the quarterfinals of the Cascade Conference Championships, presented by U.S. Bank, at Les Schwab Sports Park.
The win by the Hustlin' Owls (11-4-3) advances the team to a Wednesday match-up with rival Southern Oregon at 4 p.m. – with the victor earning a spot in the CCC championship match against the winner of Warner Pacific and College of Idaho.
Tied 1-1 midway through the final 10-minute extra session – center back
Cooper Hunt played a long through-ball to
Andrew Pasang, who made a nifty move to his left and ripped a shot just inside the left post for the Owls first lead of the day. With under three minutes remaining – Pasang collected a rebound off an
Ellis Harwood shot and played a cross to an unmarked
Rosendo Juarez-Flores, who slotted home a 10-yard sitter to give Tech insurance.
"I am very proud of the work and the heart that was showed by the boys from start to end," said OIT head coach
Sean McManamon. "We knew the semifinals wasn't a given and knew we had to go and earn it and the boys did just that. We were confident the ball would go our way and we got our opportunities and buried them."
OIT nearly had the lead in the opening minutes, as Juarez-Flores got in behind the Fighting Saints (8-4-4) defense, but his 20-yard shot clanged off the right post.
Moments later, Carroll converted – as following a scrum just outside the box, Jacob Demmons played a short pass to Ismael Navarro, who touched home a shot just inside the right post.
Tech got the equalizer just before halftime, as Harwood played a cross from right to left to a running
Yuki Enomoto. Enomoto hit a 20-yard right-footed shot just inside the right post, past the diving Juan Muniz Navarrette.
The Saints finished with a 15-10 edge in shots and a 5-1 edge in corners – with Tech turning away two corner kick chances inside the final minute of regulation.
