Tech Drops Second Half Opener to College of Idaho

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Oregon Tech opened up the second half of the Cascade Conference volleyball schedule at Danny Miles Court, dropping a 25-20, 27-25, 25-19 decision to College of Idaho.

The visiting Yotes (11-9, 9-3 CCC) recorded 11 blocks and five service aces in the victory, with Jade Warren leading the Idaho bunch with 10 kills and five blocks.

Big runs in each of the three sets were key. C of I opened the match on a 10-4 run and led 15-9 after a Haley McUne aces. OIT (7-12, 5-7) scored five of the next six points, including kills from Willow Jacobson and Molly Grace to cut the deficit to 16-14. Warren answered for the Yotes with a combo-block and kill, helping the visitors score four straight points to put the frame out of reach.

Tech controlled the majority of Set 2, taking their biggest lead of the night at 19-15 on a Jacobson spike. A combo-block from Paige Tevelde and Kate Hicks gave the Lady Owls set-point at 24-22, but could not get the needed point – as McUne and Shelbey Nichol capped a 5-1 run by C of I to steal the set.

An early 4-1 lead for OIT in Set 3 was erased by the visitors, as Savannah Hutchins served up 11-straight points to give the Yotes a commanding lead. The Lady Owls would have one last surge, as a Jacobson-Aleksen Thayer block capped an 8-2 surge that pulled Tech within 19-17, but the hosts could not get closer.

Jacobson had eight kills and three blocks for Tech, with Hicks adding seven kills and three blocks. Grace finished with six kills and 12 digs, with Kaley Whalen leading the club with 13 digs.

Nichol had nine kills and McUne added eight kills for C of I, with Clair Hodge leading all players with 21 digs.

The Lady Owls close out the weekend tomorrow night, hosting Eastern Oregon at 5 p.m.
