KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Oregon Tech used a 24-4 run spanning the second and third quarters to erase a double-digit deficit, as the Lady Owls rallied for a 67-56 victory over Multnomah University at Danny Miles Court.
OIT (14-7, 10-5 CCC) made 50-percent of their second half field goals in the comeback, while holding a 49-26 edge on the glass.
"Our second half effort was tremendous," said OIT head coach
Paul Poetsch. "The third quarter was a clinic by our team – I am proud of how they responded after being down at the half. Our defensive effort and rebounding in the quarter were as good as it has been all season. I am extremely proud of how they continue to battle night in and night out."
The Lions (5-16, 3-12) controlled the bulk of the first half, using a 16-3 run to take a 29-18 lead following a Kianna Ponce 3-point play with six minutes left in the second quarter.
Tech began the comeback, as buckets from
Alexis Elquist and
Melissa Lee started an 8-0 run to get within 29-27, but MU answered late in the period to take a 32-27 lead at the break. The Lady Owls continued the pressure in the third quarter – holding the Lions without a made field goal for the first five minutes.
Maddyson Tull scored on consecutive possessions and an
Olivia Sprague baseline runner gave the hosts the lead for good.
The Lady Owls put the game away in the fourth quarter, as an inside move by
Elli Kent pushed the margin to 67-45.
Sprague led Tech with 12 points and five assists, with
Gabbie Gascon scoring 11 with four steals. Lee scored eight points, adding a game-high 11 rebounds, with Kent scoring eight.
Elise Graham led MU with 14 points and Alaygza Portis scoring 13 in the loss.
OIT close out the homestand tomorrow afternoon with a 3 p.m. match-up vs. Warner Pacific.
