KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. –
Melissa Lee scored eight-straight points in a decisive fourth quarter run, helping Oregon Tech rally for a key 63-58 victory over College of Idaho at Danny Miles Court.
The Lady Owls (13-5, 9-3 CCC) trailed by eight points in the third quarter – but used a 21-5 run to win their seventh game in eight tries and complete a season sweep of the Yotes.
"What an effort in the fourth quarter by our team," said head coach
Paul Poetsch. "We did a great job at the defensive end and made the plays we needed to make offensively to earn a win."
An 8-0 run by the Yotes (10-8, 5-7), capped by a Jada Reed triple, gave the visitors their largest lead of the night at 48-40, with just over two minutes left in the third period. Tech answered with 11-straight points, as
Olivia Sprague hit a runner to start the run and Lee ended it with an 18-footer, giving the hosts a 51-48 lead with just under six minutes remaining.
C of I regained the lead at 53-51 on a Riley Frith 3-pointer – only to see Lee convert on three-consecutive possessions and
Alexis Elquist and Sprague each make a pair of free throws – as the 10-0 run put the game away.
Sprague scored a game-high 18 points – her 19th-straight double-digit scoring game – one off the OIT school record.
Maddyson Tull had 14 points and eight rebounds, Lee finished with nine points, four rebounds and three blocks, with
Gabbie Gascon scoring five points, adding a career-high six assists.
Tech made 8-of-17 3-pointers in the win – but dropped the rebound battle, 35-34.
Mia Austin scored 14 points to lead C of I – including 8-straight second quarter points that helped the visitors take a 29-26 lead, before OIT closed the first half on a 9-2 run on the strength of 3's from Sprague, Tull and
Jenna Wallace.
Sienna Riggle had 12 points and six rebounds, Lexi Mitchell had 12 points, seven rebounds and five assists, with Riley scoring 10.
OIT returns to the court tomorrow afternoon at 3 p.m. – hosting No. 16-ranked Eastern Oregon in the annual Pink Out Game – as the first 1,000 fans receive a commemorative Pink-Out t-shirt.
