LEWISTON, Idaho –
Maddyson Tull posted a double-double with 20 points and 12 rebounds, but it wasn't enough for Oregon Tech, as No. 10-ranked Lewis-Clark State closed the first half on a 17-6 run, en route to a 79-64 victory over the Lady Owls at P1FCU Activity Center.
The Warriors (15-1, 10-0 CCC) remained unbeaten in Cascade Conference play with their 15th-straight victory, snapping OIT's 6-game win streak.
"We were right there with one of the top teams in the NAIA," said OIT head coach
Paul Poetsch. "We hit a rough spot late in the second quarter and for part of the third, and that was the difference."
Both Callie Stevens and Hannah Broyles hit five 3-pointers in the victory, as LC made 13 triples on the night. The duo combined to make six 3's in the opening 12 minutes, the last longball giving the hosts a 27-20 lead.
The Lady Owls (11-5, 7-3) did not back down, as Tull scored on back-to-back possessions,
Alexis Elquist converted on the baseline and
Melissa Lee drained a trey, with the 9-0 run giving the visitors their lone lead of the night at 29-27.
The nationally-ranked side punched back, as Stevens hit a 3-pointer and Broyles followed suit just before the final horn, allowing LC to lead 44-35 at the half.
An
Olivia Sprague 3-pointer got Tech within 50-43 early in the third quarter, only to see Ellie Sander answer with a 3-point play, starting an 8-0 run pushed the lead to 15 – a lead that never fell below double-digits the rest of the night.
Sprague scored 15 points and
Gabbie Gascon logged 10 points and five assists in the loss for the Lady Owls. Tech had a 37-35 edge in rebounds and recorded 15 assists on 25 made field goals.
Stevens led LCSC with 20 points and Broyles added 19 in the win.
OIT closes out the road swing tomorrow night at 7 p.m., traveling to Walla Walla University.
