Martinez Places 4th in Pole Vault on Day 1 of CCC Meet

ASHLAND, Ore. - Oregon Tech junior
Chris Martinez placed fourth overall in the pole vault on Day 1 of the Cascade Conference Track and Field Championships, presented by U.S. Bank, at Raider Stadium.
Martinez cleared back to back heights of 4.50 and 4.60 meters (15 feet, 1 inch) - the latter a season-best - but narrowly missed his final attempt at 4.70 meters. His efforts netted Tech five team points, with the Owls ending Day 1 of the meet with 13 points (including points from
Thomas Dodgen's runner-up effort in the decathlon at the CCC Multi-Meet).
Only one other OIT competitor was in action on the day, as
Owen Lien clocked a time of 50.90 seconds in the first of two sections of the 400-meters, placing tenth overall.
Day 2 of the event begins tomorrow at 11 a.m. with the javelin (
Jose Ignacio), with Tech having competitors in the 100-meters (
Mark Hodge and
Patrick Giraudo) and 5,000-meters (
Jonas Hartline and
Nick McMillen).
