                        EAGLE POINT, Ore. –
Payton Canon shot an opening round 77, as the Oregon Tech women's golf team sits in second place after Day 1 of the Cascade Conference Championships, presented by U.S. Bank, at Eagle Point Golf Club.

Canon shot an even-par 36 on her back nine, finishing the morning alone in sixth-place, just 5-strokes off the lead set by British Columbia's Shania Remandaban.

"UBC had a solid round today and we put ourselves in some tough spots," said OIT head coach
Dave Myers. "Payton did a great job of battling back after a couple bad holes. Our goal tomorrow will be to limit our mistakes and make up some ground on the leaders."

The Lady Owls had two other Top-10 finishers, as the squad closed the morning with a team round of 328, 30 strokes behind overall leader, UBC (298). Corban (335) is in third, just ahead of Lewis-Clark State (340).

Ashley Zhu sits in a tie for eighth-place after a first round 82, with
Quincy Beyrouty in tenth-place following an 83.
Maiya Baker sits in 15th-place (86), with
Grace Hull in 20th-place (89) to close out the OIT quintet.

Round 2 will begin tomorrow morning at 8:30 a.m. – with the players beginning on Hole 10.
