OIT drops Friday Doubleheader at Corban

KEIZER, Ore. – Five hits from Brodie Marino was not enough for Oregon Tech, as Corban University rallied to sweep a doubleheader from the Owls at Volcanoes Stadium.

The Warriors (19-18, 6-8 CCC) claimed a 12-8 victory in Game 1 and rode a great bullpen effort in a 7-4 victory in the afternoon tilt.

OIT (29-16, 8-6) saw their 6-game win streak snapped as the hosts erased a 4-0 deficit in Game 1 and a 3-2 deficit in Game 2.

"We didn't execute well in important moments today," said Owls head coach, Jacob Garsez. "We allowed too many free passes. We look forward to a competitive response tomorrow."

Tech led 4-0 early in the opener, scoring a run in the second on a wild pitch and tacking on three runs in the third, keyed by a 2-run single from Ian Peters. Unfortunately, Kyle Clay answered for Corban, giving the Warriors the lead in the fifth with a 2-run triple and adding a second 2-run triple in the sixth , as the hosts built a 11-4 lead.

Mason Shaw worked seven strong innings for the win, striking out six. OIT was led by Marino, who was 3-for-4 with a double, with Peters and Tyler Horner each logging two hits.

The Owls rallied to take a 3-2 lead in Game 2, tying the score in the second on a Ka'ala Tam ground out and grabbing the lead on a Horner RBI double in the third.  However, the Warriors rallied again – taking the lead in the fifth on an Estenio Sede single.

The Warriors pen held OIT to just four hits in seven innings to close out the win.

Matthew Ortiz went 3-for-5 in the loss, with Marino, Horner and Kaleb Keelean each adding two hits.

The two teams will play in a doubleheader, now set for 1 p.m.
