Hustlin’ Owls Sweep Saints in Home Openers

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Oregon Tech improved to 13-7 on the season with a sweep of NCAA Division II Saint Martin's University (5-10) 13-0, and 10-5 Saturday at Bocchi Field at Steen Sports Park in the first-ever meeting between the two programs. 
 
"We played a team game today," said head coach Jacob Garsez. "I thought we responded to adversity well and made good adjustments throughout the games."
 
Game 1 – Oregon Tech 13 Saint Martin's 0 (7 Inn.)
 
After a scoreless first inning, Tech opened up the flood gates with three runs in the second, three more in the third, then added another three in the fourth to take a 9-0 after four innings. The Owls continued the hitting display with two more runs in the fifth and added another pair of runs in the sixth to win 13-0. The Owls had a huge 17-to4 advantage in hits in the game.
 
Dylan Grogan (#23 pictured)  pitched six scoreless innings, allowing just three-hits with five strikeouts to pick up the win and improve to 5-0 on the season.
 
At the plate Tech was led by Matt Ortiz and Dalton Daily who each had three-hits in the win with Tyler Horner, Kaleb Keelean, Brodie Marino, and Ian Peters, all adding two hits each.

The Saints took their first and only lead of the day with one run in top of the second on back-to-back doubles by Dakota Hill and Reid Little.
 
The Owls answered right back with six runs in the bottom of the inning highlighted by a three-run double by Tarakhchyan.
 
MSU nibbled at the Tech lead with one run in the fourth, two-runs in the fifth, and a run in the sixth to close the gap to 6-5.
 
The Owls then put the game away with two runs in the seventh and two more in the eighth to win 10-5.
 
Tech starter Patrick Arman went four and two-thirds to earn his second win of the season with Braeden Bellum pitching the final four and a third innings to earn his second save of the year.
 
Ortiz and Horner led Tech once again at the plate with three-hits a piece with Keelean, Daily, and Mitchel Swanson, adding two hits each in the win.
 
The two will conclude the four-game series Sunday with a doubleheader scheduled for 11:00 am at Steen Sports Park.
