KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Five Oregon Tech pitchers combined on a 5-hit shutout, as the Hustlin' Owls earned a 3-0 victory over Simpson University at Steen Sports Park.
Dylan Grogan struck out five batters in three strong innings of work, with
Cade Sheets picking up his first win of the season, working around three walks and two hits in three innings.
Brendan Talonen and
Alex Bratton worked out of jams in the seventh and eighth, before
Brodie Maloney slammed the door in the ninth for his fourth save of 2022.
"A much needed win for our guys," said head coach
Jacob Garsez. "Dylan bounced back with a great outing, his velocity was 88-90 and hit his spots."
OIT (22-13) broke through in the fifth inning, as
Tyler Horner reached on a bloop, sun-aided double and scored on a RBI triple from
Kaleb Keelean.
Ian Peters followed with a high-chopper through the left side that plated Keelean to make it 2-0.
After the Redhawks (11-25) squandered chances with second-and-third in both the seventh and eighth innings, Tech added an insurance run in the eighth, as courtesy runner
Sean Tobin scored from second on a wild throw after an infield single by
Michael Tarakhchyan.
Keelean, Peters and
Brodie Marino each had two hits in the win for OIT, while five different Redhawk players recorded one hit.
The Owls hit the road this weekend, traveling to Atherton, Calif., for a 4-game series against Menlo College, beginning Friday afternoon.
