KLAMATH FALLS, OR. — The (RV) Oregon Tech Hustlin' Owls (20-9, 17-4) lost their lead late, resulting in them losing their regular-season finale to Lewis-Clark State (21-9, 14-8). Looking to gain momentum into the CCC tournament, Tech fell just short of knocking off the defending national runners up in Lewiston.
The Hustlin' Owls were outshot by Lewis-Clark State, 39% to 45% on Saturday, which proved to be a turning point down the stretch of the contest.
With 2:47 to play, it looked as if Tech was going to hang on after Kellen Gerig hit a turn-around jumper to go up 65-61.
Unfortunately for Tech, they were held to two points in the final three minutes, allowing the Warriors to steal it at the end.
OIT had four players in double figures on Saturday night:
Garret Albrecht: 15 points on 6-of-11 shooting with five rebounds
Matt Van Tassell: 14 points on 4-of-8 shooting with four rebounds
Kellen Gerig: 10 points on 5-of-12 shooting with six rebounds
Kaison Faust: 10 points on 2-of-5 shooting with five rebounds
Lewis-Clark was led by Khalil Stevenson, who scored a game-high 22 points on 9-of-16 shooting.
The Hustlin' Owls will return on Wednesday for the quarterfinals of the CCC tournament. The Hustlin' Owls will face Warner-Pacific at 7pm on Danny Miles Court.
The upcoming conference tournament bracket looks as such:
#8 Multnomah @ #1 College of Idaho
#5 Southern Oregon @ #4 Corban
