PORTLAND, Ore. – Oregon Tech used a 21-5 third quarter run to break open a close game, as the Lady Owls ran their win streak to three with a 72-42 road win at Warner Pacific.
Olivia Sprague scored 15 points and had six of a season-high 15 steals from the Lady Owls (8-4, 4-2 CCC) as OIT turned 22 WPU turnovers into 29 points.
"I was really pleased by our effort in the third quarter," said OIT head coach
Paul Poetsch. "We made some adjustments at halftime and picked up our energy. This was a good win."
Following a back-and-forth first quarter, the winless Knights (0-11, 0-6) took an 18-16 lead early in the second period on a driving basket from Emily Brown – but Tech had a big response. Sprague hit a 15-foot jumper and
Maddyson Tull converted twice on the block.
Kaitlyn Wright canned a runner down the baseline and
Melissa Lee drained a baseline 10-footer, capping a 10-0 run that gave the visitors the lead for good.
Leading 30-25 at the break – OIT forced nine third quarter turnovers and held the hosts to 2-of-11 shooting in the frame. Sprague started the run with a 3-pointer and the Lady Owls converted 10-of-15 free throws in the period to extend the lead to 51-30. Tech closed the game on an 18-4 run – with the 30-point lead their largest of the night.
Sprague added four rebounds and three assists in the win – scoring 15-or-more points for the 11th-straight game. Tull had 13 points and four rebounds, with
Kennedy Tull adding eight points.
Jenna Wallace scored seven off the bench for OIT, with
Gabbie Gascon scoring five points, with four steals and three assists.
Brown had 10 points and a game-high 10 rebounds for the Knights, who converted just 4-of-30 3-point baskets in the contest.
OIT closes out the 2022 portion of the schedule tomorrow afternoon at Multnomah.
