PLAYOFF PICTURE WITH TWO WEEKS TO GO: Just two weeks remain in the 13-match Cascade Conference season, with the Owls on the verge of securing their sixth-straight trip to the CCC Championships. Tech can clinch a spot with either a win or a draw in one of their final four matches, or a draw or loss by Multnomah. Warner Pacific sits atop the table with a 9-0 record, even in the points column with Corban (9-1), with OIT one-game back at 8-1. The top-three teams have separated themselves from the fourth-place teams, College of Idaho and Southern Oregon – both at 6-3, with Rocky Mountain at 5-4.  The top-eight teams in the final standings will compete at the CCC Championships, Nov. 7-11 in Eugene, with the winner earning an automatic bid to the NAIA National Championships.  Along with OIT and Southern meeting Corban and Bushnell, Eastern Oregon and C of I travel to Walla Walla and Carroll, Rocky and Providence hit the road to Multnomah and Warner Pacific, while Evergreen hosts Northwest.

MONSTER MATCH-UPS AWAIT: Though the Owls sit three points back of Warner Pacific and Corban in the CCC table, OIT holds their own championship destiny in their hands. Tech travels to Corban on Friday and closes the regular-season next Saturday vs. WPU – potentially both Top-25 contests. If the Owls win their final four matches, they will at clinch their second-straight CCC regular-season title and an automatic bid to the NAIA Championships.

OPPONENT PREVIEW – CORBAN: The perennial CCC power, Corban, has been nearly unbeatable this season, as the Warriors (14-1, 9-1 CCC) have outscored opponents 55-3 and allowed just 28 shots on goal – with their lone loss a 1-0 decision at Warner Pacific. Defense has been the story, as keeper Quinn McCallion (0.20 GAA, .843 save %) has recorded 13 shutout victories. All-CCC picks Alexis Luna (8 goals, 7 assists) and Reggie Reyes (6 goals, 5 assists) lead the Warriors attack, with Andres Labate (6 goals, 8 assists), Edson Jiminez (7 goals, 2 assists) and Jaden Dubon (7 goals) are all among the league leaders in scoring. Tech is searching for their first-ever win at Corban – as the Owls are 0-12 all-time in Salem and 3-19 against the Warriors.

OPPONENT PREVIEW – BUSHNELL: Tech closes out the road portion of their schedule on Saturday at Bushnell, as the Beacons (4-9-1, 2-8) are coming off a road split in Montana – including a win at the University of Providence. BU is unbeaten in five matches (4-0-1) when allowing one goal or fewer but are 0-9 when allowing two goals or more. Forward Caleb Burke (10 goals, 2 assists) has set the Beacons single-season scoring record, with Caleb Primo (3 goals, 3 assists) and Alejandro Munoz (3 goals, 3 assists) both key offensive options. Keeper Diego Montes Carrera (2.72 GAA, .615 save %) has played the majority of minutes in goal. OIT holds a 15-7-2 series edge on the Beacons, with BU holding a 5-4-1 edge in Springfield.

WIN STREAK REACHES SIX: The Owls earned six key points last weekend, outlasting College of Idaho, 3-2, before blanking Eastern Oregon, 1-0. OIT ran their win streak to six with the two victories – the second-longest single-season win streak in program history, trailing only the 9-straight wins the 2021 team posted between Oct. 1-29. It is the sixth win streak of 4-or-more games by the Owls, with the longest win streak set between the 2020 and 2021 seasons at 10 games (wins in the final four games of 2020 and wins in the first six matches of 2021). A win would give OIT their second 10-win season in program history – joining last season's 17-win club.

RARE CONFERENCE WIN WHEN ALLOWING TWO GOALS: The 3-2 victory over C of I marked the first time OIT has won a CCC match-up when surrendering 2-or-more goals since a 3-2 win over Warner Pacific in 2013. It was the 131st match in program history that the Owls have allowed 2-or-more goals, with the team improving to 10-115-6 in such matches.

WITTS BREAKS SHUTOUT RECORD: With a clean sheet in the victory over Eastern Oregon, keeper Joel Witts earned the 13th shutout of his OIT career, establishing a new school record. The senior had shared the mark with his former teammate, Mitchell Jillson, who posted 12 shutouts from 2017-20. Witts extended his school record for goalkeeper wins to 26 – well ahead of the previous record of 18, set by Jillson.

DOUBLE-DIGIT GOALS FOR O'NEILL: The scoring barrage by forward Cade O'Neill continued against College of Idaho and Eastern Oregon, recording goals in each contest and has posted at least one goal in 5-of-6 matches. The senior tied the single-season record with his game-winner against EOU, joining Jake Mitchell as the only OIT players with 10 goals in season. O'Neill has 21 total points on the year, four points off Mitchell's mark of 25, established last year.

PASANG CONTINUES BIG YEAR: Also on the record hunt is sophomore Andrew Pasang, who has recorded at least one point in nine of the 12 matches this season. The midfielder scored his seventh goal of 2022 against C of I and added an assist on the game-winning tally against EOU. Pasang became just the fifth OIT player with 6-or-more assists in a season and the eighth player to score 7-or-more goals in a year.

RIDEOUT PULLS EVEN ATOP POINTS LIST: With an assist against C of I, Brock Rideout pulled into a tie for the all-time scoring lead, recording his 49th career point in the 3-2 win. The senior 18 goals and 13 assists in an OIT kit, joining Trinidad Flores in the 49-point club.

RECORD BOOK: Five OIT players are among the Top-20 in the program's all-time record book following Saturday's contest. Both John Sarna and Brock Rideout are tied for the all-time game-winning goals record (7) – with Sarna No. 1 in total shots (139) and No. 3 in points (46), goals scored (16) and in assists (14), while Rideout tied for the top spot in points (49), ranking No. 2 in goals scored (18), No. 4 in assists (13) and No. 5 in shots (110). Joel Witts holds the all-time record for goalie wins (26) and shutouts (13); Cade O'Neil is No. 3 in goals scored (16), No. 4 in shots (122) and No. 8 in points (39); with Andrew Pasang No. 9 in assists (10), No. 13 in points (28) and No. 17 in goals (9).

NEW OVERTIME RULES: The 2022 season will feature a new set of rules for games tied at the end of regulation. Beginning this year, any regular-season match that is tied after 90 minutes will be declared a draw – no overtime period will be played. All postseason games that are tied after 90 minutes will feature two 10-minute overtime periods – that will be played out in its entirety – regardless of how many goals are scored. If the postseason overtime period ends in a tie, a penalty shootout will determine the team that advances.

LOOKING AHEAD: OIT closes out the regular-season with their final two home matches – Oct. 28 vs. Multnomah and Oct. 29 vs. Warner Pacific.
