Keelean Homers Three Times as Hustlin’ Owls Start Season with Split

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – The Oregon Tech baseball team started the 2022 season with a convincing 15-6 win over Simpson University on Saturday in game one, however had to settle for the doubleheader split after losing game two 11-10 at Tiger Field.
"It was great to get out and compete," said head coach
Jacob Garsez. "We did an exceptional job offensively but have to close out games better."

Dylan Grogan went the first five innings giving up just one hit with 11-strikeouts to earn the win.
Kaleb Keelean (Pictured) had four hits to lead the Owls offense in game one including his first of three home runs on the day, for the game he scored five runs with three RBI. Freshman
Tyler Horner added three hits including a three-run home run that gave Tech a 6-0 lead. Tech's
Mitchel Swanson chipped in with a pair of hits along with two-RBI.
The Owls totaled 13-hits in the game one win.
Game 2 Simpson 11 Oregon Tech 10
After a scoreless first two-innings, Tech took a 2-0 lead in the third inning on three hits highlighted by an
Alex Malcolm two-run homer.
The Owls added six more runs in the 4
th on seven hits including homers by both
Michael Tarakhchyan and Keelean to go up 8-0. Keelean hit his third homer of the day, a two-run shot in the 6
th to put Tech up 10-0.
The Red Hawks answered with one run in the 6
th, six runs in the 7
th, and four more runs in the 8
th to complete the comeback and held on to win 11-10 after Tech stranded the tying run at third in the 9
th.
Keelean finished the day with six hits, three homers, a triple, and eight RBI.
The two teams are scheduled for a Sunday doubleheader in Redding, California starting at 11:00 am at Tiger Field.
