ROCKLIN, Calif. - Oregon Tech Volleyball (4-1) rebounded from a difficult five-set loss last night, to claim two victories on Saturday. The Lady Owls grabbed two 3-0 wins over Menlo (0-3) and Merced (0-7) to finish the weekend 3-1.
"Remarkable job by the team today and I really think our summer conditioning paid dividends to be in a position to turn around after 2 matches yesterday and play 2 more today," said head coach
Ken Murczek "We hit for the highest efficiency of the year today and played 2 very scrappy opponents. Excited for our team to finish the preseason 4-1 and now we need to work on a couple areas before starting our conference season on Friday."
In the first match of the afternoon, Tech swept aside Menlo by set scores of:
Set 1 -- Tech 25 Menlo 15
Set 2 -- Tech 25 Menlo 21
Set 3 -- Tech 25 Menlo 19
It was a strong showing for a Tech side who had the advantage over Menlo in every statistic.
Attack Percentage: .333 to .170
Kills: 40-32
Aces: 11-6
Blocks: 8-3
Assists: 38-31
Digs: 38-29
Kaylin Talonen provided the plethora of attacks for Tech leading the team in kills with 13, almost two times more than the next closest attacker.
Courtney Isom was crisp in her passes all afternoon, recording 15 assists for her side, five more than the next closest player.
Finally, the Owls were paced well in the serving category as
Lindsey Sampson landed four aces, and
Nicole Reyes and Isom added three a piece.
In the second match of the day, it was much of the same for Tech, who again won via a 3-0 sweep. The set scores from match two were:
Set 1 -- Tech 25 Merced 14
Set 2 -- Tech 25 Merced 21
Set 3 -- Tech 25 Merced 22
And once again, the Hustlin' Owls showed dominance on the stat sheet.
Attack Percentage: .284 to .161
Kills: 41-27
Aces: 12-6
Assists: 39-25
Digs: 41-28
Kaylin Talonen led the way in the kills department again, along with
Faith Houck-Wylie, with each claiming 13 kills.
Brooke Cassidy was the key passer in the second match with 19 assists,
Courtney Isom was not far behind with 16.
Cassidy also led the team in aces with four.
Overall, the weekend was a success for an Owl's side looking to build momentum towards conference play. Tech will next battle in their first CCC match on Friday, September 3 when they travel to College Place to take on Walla Walla University at 2:00 PM.
