KLAMATH FALLS, Ore.— Oregon Tech (1-0) opened up the 2021 season with a dominant performance Friday night with a 3-0 (25-17, 25-6, 25-20) sweep of Simpson University (0-2) at Danny Miles Court.
 
"Nice work by our team this evening," said head coach Ken Murczek. "Very proud of the focus they had during the match. We had three goals for the match and accomplished all of them. I look forward to working on our offense this week in preparation for next weekend's matches."
 
Set 1 Oregon Tech 25-17
 
The Owls took an early 9-2 lead before Simpson rolled three straight points including back-to-back aces by Maddy Adams to make it 9-5. The Owls extended the lead to 14-7; Simpson battled but Tech closed out the set with five straight points including two service aces by Brooke Cassidy to win 25-17.
 
Set 2 Oregon Tech 25-6
 
The Owls dominated the second set, taking an 11-1 lead on the way to the 25-6 set win hitting at .300 kill percentage while holding the Red Hawks to .130.
 
Set 3 Oregon Tech 25-20
 
Simpson answered back with an early 9-6 lead in the third set. The Owls battled and tied the game at 16-16, and 18-18 before finishing strong, winning seven of the last nine points.
 
The Owls hit at .155 clip for the game, and limited Simpson to .010.
 
Faith Houck-Wylie and Kaylin Talonen led the team with 6 kills each with Nicole Reyes adding 5 kills along with 11 digs. Aubrey Kievit held down the middle with a game high 13 digs for the Owls. Courtney Isom dealt-out a game high 12 assists, while Houck-Wylie and Kate Hicks led the block brigade with three each.
 
Tech will next travel to Rocklin, California for the Warrior Classic with matches against Simpson, and the host school William Jessup on Friday, August 27 and will wrap up the tournament on Saturday, August 28 against Menlo College and UC Merced.
