Lady Owls Start Season with Highest Ranking in Program History

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – After back-to-back conference championships, the Oregon Tech women's soccer team will start the 2021 season with the highest preseason ranking in program history as the Owls start as the No. 19 team in the NAIA women's coaches' preseason poll.
"Being ranked 19th and the highest ever to start a season is a testament to the winning culture we have been striving for," said head coach Casey Tate. "The hard work by this team the past 3 years is coming through with being ranked in the top 25 each of the past 3 season. Now we have to go prove again why we deserve to be 19th and we hope that 19 is just the starting point."
The previous highest ranking for women's soccer was back on November 6, 2019 when the Owls earned a No. 24 ranking.
The Owls finished last year at 12-1-1 including 9 straight shutouts.
The Lady Owls open the season with a scrimmage this Friday, August 13 at NCAA Division I Portland State University before hosting William Jessup University on Thursday, August 19 at 2:30 pm at the OIT Soccer Field.

Poll Methodology
- The poll was voted upon by a panel of head coaches representing each of the conferences, Association of Independent Institutions and Unaffiliated Groups.
- The Top 25 is determined by a points system based on how each voter ranks the best teams. A team receives 30 points for each first-place vote, 29 for second-place and so on through the list.
- The highest and lowest ranking for each team (a non-rating is considered a low ratings) is removed and the team's ranking will be recalculated with an additional point added to each team for every ballot (including discounted ballots) that the teams appears on.
- Teams that receive only one point in the ballot are not considered "receiving votes."
