Oregon Tech Downs Yotes 4-1 to Advance to NAIA World Series Championship Game

COLUMBUS, GA – In another strong outing from Sarah Abramson, Oregon Tech held off College of Idaho to advance to the NAIA Softball championship game on Wednesday. Tech took advantage of the few base runners they had to win 4-1.  They will now face either Southern Oregon, College of Idaho, or Bethany for the NAIA World Series Championship.

"I am really proud of this entire team," said head coach Greg Stewart. "They are all great examples of "Oregon Tech Lady Owls" who have high character and display positive attitudes. They demonstrate these qualities on and off field. It is so enjoyable to spend time with so many great young people who represent our university the right way."

In the winner's bracket championship game, Tech displayed resolute defending to back Abramson in a 4-1 victory grabbing their 14th win in a row.

The Owls drew first blood scoring two runs in the top of the first inning as McKenna Armantrout reached on a walk, followed by a Kaila Mick base hit to center. Aubrie Businger then executed a perfect sacrifice bunt to advance both runners forward to second and third. Maggie Buckholz then connected on an RBI single, scoring Armantrout. The Owls then scored on a double-steal attempt as Mick scored after the Yotes catcher was called for obstruction on the play.

The Owls would remain ahead 2-0 until the bottom of the 3rd when the 'Yotes halved their deficit. Trystin Crofts lined out to right but the ball was deep enough for a sacrifice fly to make the score 2-1.

In the 5th, Tech would add some insurance for Abramson as they scored two more runs. First, Logan Nunes walked to lead off the inning, Lexi Klum than pinch ran for Nunes, and advanced all the way to third base on an Olivia Lethlean sacrifice bunt that was miss played, allowing Lethlean to go to second base. Armantrout then reached on an infield single that loaded the bases. Mick then grounded to the 'Yotes shortstop, who threw wide of second allowing Klum and Lethlean to score on the error. The mistake was a familiar feeling for the 'Yotes who lost the CCC Championship game on a throwing error to Tech in extras innings.

With Tech leading 4-1, College of Idaho put runners into scoring position, but Tech was equal to every play, keeping the 'Yotes at bay.

In the bottom of the 7th, CI brought the tying run to the plate with two outs, but Maggie Buckholz secured a fly ball to deep right to secure the Owls' win.

Sarah Abramson picked up the win, throwing seven innings, allowing one run on six hits while walking four and striking out four to improve to 29-5 on the year.

Tech (48-8) will play in the NAIA Championship Game at 2pm on Wednesday; if they lose, they would play the tiebreaker at 5pm.
