KLAMATH FALLS, Ore.— Oregon Tech (21-22, 16-14) dropped both games to Corban (21-25, 16-14) at Kiger Stadium on Saturday. Tech started the day with a two game lead in the conference standings over the Warriors but were bumped down. The Owls will have to sweep the Sunday doubleheader to clinch the 2-seed for next week's CCC Tournament.
Following the game, head coach
Jacob Garsez remarked, "We did not play Tech baseball today. This game has a unique way of rewarding those that respond to adversity well. Looking forward to our response."
Game One: Corban 7 Oregon Tech 6
In game 1 of the series, Tech missed out on the opportunity to clinch the 2 seed in the upcoming CCC Conference Tournament. The victory for Corban brought the gap to 1 game, with 3 remaining in the series.
The Warriors drew first blood scoring 2 runs in the 2nd and 4 runs in the 3rd to grab a surprise 6-0 lead on Tech's senior weekend.
Leading 6-0, Corban would cruise until the bottom of the 9th inning when Tech began to mount a comeback.
After chipping away, Tech drew within 1 run when
Kaleb Keelean smacked a 2RBI single into right field.
Tech was able to get the tying run to third base for
Dalton Daily, but a groundout with 2 outs meant the Hustlin' Owls comeback attempt would fall just short.
Jax Evenhus,
Josh Davis, and
Ryan Poling were all solid in relief for Tech. Each pitcher threw a scoreless frame down the stretch to allow the Owls the chance to comeback.
Tech was led by
Kaleb Keelean who had 3 hits and 3 RBIs.
Mason Shaw picked up the win on the hill for Corban throwing 7 innings allowing only 3 runs.
Game Two: Corban 14 Oregon Tech 7
Similar to game 1, Corban jumped out to a 6-0 lead and were able to ride it out to their 10th straight victory.
Tech would attempt a rally, but every time the Owls got close, Corban would respond with their bats totaling 19 hits in game 2 alone.
Zach Stockton and
Dalton Daily hit home runs late for Tech which could potentially build some confidence and momentum heading into the final two games of the regular season on Sunday.
Daily,
Micah Jio, and
Brodie Maloney all tallied 2 hits for the Owls who still displayed a strong offensive performance although not having the stuff to keep up defensively.
Spencer Dahlke picked up the loss for Tech throwing 5 innings, allowing 6 runs on 8 hits, while walking 3 and striking out 7.
All eyes are turned to tomorrow when Tech hosts Corban for two more games in a doubleheader; they must sweep to earn the 2-seed.
