Owls Control Northwest for 3-0 Win

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore.— The Oregon Tech women's soccer team downed Northwest University 3-0 on Monday moving the Owls to 10-1 overall and most importantly 8-1 in Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) play. The win keeps Tech tied with Corban (who won at SOU 2-0 Monday) atop the CCC West Division standings, with the top-squad earning an automatic berth to the NAIA Tournament.

"The girls had  to really work hard to get the win today," said head coach Casey Tate. "Northwest is a very good team and will be difficult again tomorrow. We will need to have the same intensity and focus if we are going to get another win."

Tech took the early lead as Nyah Kendall beat the Eagles' keeper after a misplayed ball by the NU defense in the 17th minute.

Tech's Amy Morikawa played a ball into the back of the net off a corner by Mehana Ortiz in the 31st minute, giving the Owls a 2-0 lead at the half.

Freshman Hannah Peterson made it a 3-0 lead for Tech as she took a Valerie Zabinski pass and scored in the 76th minute.

Oregon Tech would not allow a Northwest shot over the final 13 minutes of play to win 3-0.

The Owls held a 14-8 advantage in shots and big 8-3 edge in shots on goal for the game.

Oregon Tech and Northwest will play again tomorrow at 1 p.m. in the final regular-season match of the season for the two squads.
