"I'm incredibly excited for the program and the 12 players that have been committed to the process this season," said head coach
Ken Murczek. "The staff and I had a vision for this team when we started the season and I could not be more proud of the progress this group as made over the last several weeks. They have earned being the number 3 seed next week in the conference tournament and the right to play in the post season. We look forward to competing against a nationally ranked opponent in #13 Corban on Friday at 4pm. We know they have a very solid offense that we will need to slow down."
In Saturday's sweep of Multnomah 3-0, Tech controlled the match from start to finish. Tech's lone senior
Ireland Bennett (pictured with her family and Coach Murczek) was honored before the match and she played a key role for the Owls as Bennett led the team in blocks and had a momentum changing kill in the third set.
OIT controlled the first set, taking a 6-2 lead. The Owls grew that lead to 17-9 and then finished with an 8-4 run to win 25-13.
Tech again got off to a 6-2 lead in the 2
nd set, extending that lead to 17-11 and cruised to a 25-16 win.
The third set however started as a very good battle as the Lions showed plenty of fight. Multnomah took a 10-8 lead. Tech tied it at 10, and 11. But momentum had swung to the Lions who led 12-11 when Bennett took a perfect set from
Brooke Cassidy and delivered a mighty swing right in the heart of the Multnomah defense, the ball struck the ground with a loud thump as momentum switched back to the Owls who never looked back scoring the next seven points on the way to the 25-18 win.
Nicole Reyes led the Owls with 14 kills with
Kaylin Talonen and
Ashley Ripplinger adding 8 and 7 kills respectively.
Courtney Isom and Cassidy held down the middle combining for 28 assists.
