SALEM, Ore.— Oregon Tech (2-2) failed to complete the weekend sweep of Corban (4-4) falling 61-66 in Salem on Saturday. Tech couldn't keep up the hot shooting start they embarked on yesterday as they shot 24-85 from the field today.
"Today was another hard-fought game. I was proud of the way the girls competed and battled with Corban's bigs inside," said
Scott Meredith. "At the end of the day, we just didn't shoot the ball well enough in a close overtime game. With the discrepancy in the number of foul shots taken and our low shooting percentage, I'm amazed it was even that close, however, we made some plays down the stretch in regulation to push it into overtime, and then we just couldn't find the net."
The 1st quarter was super competitive from both sides, as they traded blow for blow, and Corban ended up leading 15-14. Each squad made 6 shots in the 1st and matched each other's strong defensive efforts for an entertaining first period.
The Owls kept up the strong defensive effort in the 2nd, outsourcing Corban 16-7, which was good enough for a 30-22 halftime lead.
Unfortunately, the Owls couldn't find that same defensive success in the 3rd or the 4th, as Corban scored 17 and 20 respectively to send the game to OT, knotted at 59.
In the OT period, Corban's defense was elite, holding the Owls to 0-11 shooting from the floor and only 2 points total in the 5-minute extra stanza. Corban made the most of their chances outscoring the Owls 7-2 to win 66-61.
Kristin Farrell and
Courtney Clemmer led the Owls with 11 points each, while
Abby Kreiser (#12 Pictured) almost had a triple-double adding 10 points, 10 assists, and 7 rebounds for Tech.
The Lady Owls will return to action in two weeks when they travel to face off with Eastern Oregon in La Grande, Oregon April 9
th and 10
th.
