KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – No. 7 Oregon Tech advanced to 20-0 for the 1st time in program history, sweeping the Saturday doubleheader over Corban University. The Lady Owls (20-0, 8-0 CCC) beat the visiting (RV) Warriors (11-9, 6-2 CCC) 16-2 and 8-5 on Saturday in another strong offensive performance at John and Lois Stilwell Stadium.
"I am really proud of these ladies and how they continue to perform in clutch moments," said head coach
Greg Stewart. "These were two big wins today against a good Corban team."
Game One: Oregon Tech 16 Corban 2 (5)
Tech got off to an extremely hot start, grabbing 4 runs in the top of the 1st Inning. The frame was highlighted by a
Jensen Becker 2 RBI single that grabbed the 4-0 lead for the Lady Owls.
However, Corban would chip away at the deficit. They'd plate a run of an error in the Bottom of the 1st, and use the long ball in the 2nd, to cut the deficit to 4-2.
Tech was no stranger to the long ball though, as
Aubrie Businger went yard in the top of the 3rd to extend the lead to 5-2. Businger would add another run on her 2nd RBI single and the Owls would go ahead 7-2.
The offensive onslaught wouldn't end there as the Owls continued to string together good at bats, and walk a few more runners in.
The icing on the cake for Tech came in the Top of the 5th when
Lexi Klum hit a 3-Run HR, that pushed the Owls to a 15-2 lead.
Sarah Abramson would slam the door shut in another dominate performance on the mound for her 11th win of the season.
Abramson threw 5 innings, allowing only 2 runs on 2 hits, while walking 3 and striking out 5.
Jensen Becker and Klum both led the Owls from the plate going 3-for-4 with 4 RBIs a piece.
Game Two: Oregon Tech 8 Corban 5
In the most competitive contest the Owls have had in a while they still managed to get on the front foot early.
Tech scored a run in the 1st, and 3 more in the 2nd, highlighted by RBIs from Businger and
McKenna Armantrout. The Owls would also take advantage of some Warrior fielding errors to tack on their other 2 runs.
Corban would take advantage of an error as well in the 4th inning, cutting the deficit to 4-1.
Both pitchers would throw a scoreless 5th frame, but the Owls wouldn't be denied for long. In the 5th inning, Tech tacked on 4 more runs which was spurred by a 3 RBI double from Armantrout.
The Lady Owls would grab an 8-1 lead that they'd never look back on.
Corban would make a comeback attempt, launching a HR in the 6th and 2 HR's in the 7th, but it wouldn't be enough as the Owls would hang for the 8-5 victory.
Mckenzie Staub was the starting pitcher for the Lady Owls, grabbing her 9th win of the season, improving her record to 9-0 overall.
Staub threw 6 innings, allowing 4 earned runs, 6 hits, walking 1, and striking out 3.
Abramson came on in relief throwing 1 inning, allowing no runs, 1 hit, no walks and 1 strikeout.
Once again,
McKenna Armantrout lit it up for OIT. Armantrout had 3 hits and 4 RBIs while
Mackenzie Driscoll and Becker had 2 hits.
The Lady Owls and Warriors will conclude the four game series with a doubleheader Sunday starting at 11:00 am.
