CALDWELL, Idaho. – The Hustlin' Owls (2-2) swept College of Idaho (1-4) in a Friday afternoon doubleheader in Caldwell, Idaho, outscoring the Yotes 14-10 in the first game and 9-1 in the nightcap.
"We did a good job of competing pitch to pitch today," said Coach Garsez. "Pitchers commanded the zone well and our offense made good adjustments. Proud of our guys and ready to get back at it tomorrow!" Garsez picked up his first two wins as head baseball coach at OIT.
Game 1 Oregon Tech 14 College of Idaho 10
College of Idaho started out strong in game one, scoring four runs in the first inning. The second inning was held scoreless, but Oregon Tech kicked into gear in the top of the third, scoring three runs to come within striking distance of the lead.
The Owls scored two in the top of the fifth to take the lead as their defense continued to hold the Yotes without a run. This trend continued as Tech added four runs in the seventh and five in the eighth to reach their final score of 14 while CoI still lagged behind at 4.
As the game began to wind down in the ninth, College of Idaho made one final push, scoring six runs. They fell just short of taking the lead, however, as two players grounded out to end the game giving the Owls the win.
Sophomore
Alex Malcolm and junior
Mitchel Swanson led the scoring, adding three runs each. Juniors
Micah Jio and
Dalton Daily, along with sophomore
Jesse Dunham each scored two runs. Dunham and junior
Kaleb Keelean each batted in three runs, with Jio batting in two. Pitcher
Trask Telesmanich recorded the win, striking out seven players in the game.
For the Yotes, Austin Van Horne made four hits to bat in three runs. Matthew Clay batted in two runs on two hits, and both Clay and Van Horne scored two runs themselves.
Game 2 Oregon Tech 9 College of Idaho 1
Game two opened at a slower pace, with neither team scoring in the first two innings. The Owls broke the silence in the top of the third, scoring a single run to take the lead.
Tech expanded this lead in the fourth, scoring six runs with the help of a homer from Dailey that sent three players home. College of Idaho scored their first and only run in the bottom of the fourth but were shut out by Owl defense for the remainder of the game while OIT added two more runs in the eighth and one in the ninth to end the game 9-1.
Daily (Pictured by Liza Safford) led the scoring with his 3-run home run, batting in four runs overall off with two hits. Swanson added three hits in the game. Junior
Michael Tarakhchyan batted in a run and scored two himself.
Carter Vieira batted in the sole Yote run in the game, adding two hits for the team.

Patrick Arman added the win in this game, striking out 10 players from the mound.
