CALDWELL – Oregon Tech moved to 5-0 overall and 2-0 in Cascade Conference play after sweeping College of Idaho in a pair of CCC matches (3-0, 3-0) Friday at the J.A. Albertson Activities Center.
"Fantastic day of volleyball and a great day to be an Owl," said first year head coach Ken Murczek. "It's really enjoyable to see the girls make in game adjustments and believe they can compete with a traditional powerhouse like the College of Idaho on their home court. We will enjoy this one for a little bit this evening and then refocus for Eastern Oregon tomorrow."
The Owls will only have a few hours off before they play perennial powerhouse No. 9 Eastern Oregon Saturday in Caldwell at 10:00 am and 2:00 pm Pacific.
Nicole Reyes had 11 kills in the first match, and added 12 more in the second match to lead OIT to the sweep.
Kaylin Talonen had 12 kills in the second match as Tech hit at .267 clip in the first match and improved that to .297 in the second.
The Owls had 8 service aces in the first match with
Lindsey Sampson converting four of those. Tech won 25-21, 25-15, and 25-16 in the first match.
Lindsey Beck had 14 assists with
Brooke Cassidy adding 13 in the first match win for the Oregon Tech.
The Owls took control early in the second match winning the first set 25-16 and the second set 25-13. College of Idaho challenged in the third set before Tech won 25-22.
The win for Oregon Tech broke a 24 match losing streak to College of Idaho.
