Oregon Tech Uses Big Second Half to Pull Away From Bushnell

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. - The Oregon Tech Hustlin' Owls (8-5, 5-0) erased another second-half deficit to pull away from the Bushnell Beacons (4-8, 2-3) on Saturday night. Trailing 55-48 with 11 minutes remaining in the game, Tech embarked on a 30-8 run to keep their perfect conference record intact.

Following the victory, HC Justin Parnell said: "Really nice weekend for our guys. Corban and Bushnell are two good teams, and both made things very difficult on us. Our depth is wearing teams down, and it seems like someone different steps up every night."

Looking to improve to a 5-0 conference record, Tech seized the opportunity, beating Bushnell 78-63 on Saturday evening.

After a back-and-forth first half, Tech found themselves with a slim one-point deficit going into the break.

In the first half, Bushnell out-shot Tech from the field (46% to 41%) from the field and from three (42% to 30%), which allowed the Beacons to hold a slim advantage.

In the second half, the Warriors came out strong, grabbing what would be their largest lead of the game at 55-48 with 11:58 remaining.

However, that wouldn't be enough to hold off the Owls, who would erase their second late deficit in as many evenings.

After being spurred by hot-shooting last night, the key to Tech's second-half comeback on Saturday was defense.

The Hustlin' Owls battened down the hatches, holding Bushnell to just eight points in the final 12 minutes of the game.

Oregon Tech also remained disciplined, forcing two Bushnell technical fouls that put a wrench in the Beacon's attempts.

Tech would use a 30-8 run to close out the Beacons and advance to 5-0 in conference play for the first time since the 2011-12 season (NAIA National Champions)

Tech finished with three players in double figures:

Matt Van Tassell: 20 points on 7-of-12 shooting with 5 rebounds
Kaison Faust: 11 points on 4-of-7 shooting with 7 rebounds
Jamison Guerra: 10 points on 4-of-7 shooting

Bushnell was led by Kaden Sand, who scored 16 points on 5-of-11 shooting before fouling out.

Tech will be back in action on December 31st when they travel to Washington to take on Northwest University (5-5, 2-3) and Evergreen State College (1-8, 1-4) on New Year's Day.
