Lady Owls Win Ironman Thriller Over Corban For First CCC Victory

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. — The Oregon Tech Lady Owls (8-3, 1-3) picked up their first Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) victory of the season on Friday evening in dramatic fashion. After COVID-protocols forced eight Lady Owl's out of Friday's clash with Corban, Tech was forced to play with the same five players all game. OIT defied the odds and made history when they hung on to defeat Corban 79-73.

Following the victory, HC Scott Meredith said: "It was an amazing game. Very proud of our 5 who played so hard tonight without any subs. Olivia did a tremendous job of leading from the point, Kristin hit 4-of-5 3's, Courtney had 4 assists and 3 steals, Carissa had her first double-double and Kennedy lit them up for 28 points. Coach Beesley and I couldn't have asked more from them. This is the springboard we were looking for and will be a force in the CCC when we return after the winter break. Happy Holidays Owls fans!"

Desperately needing a victory in CCC play, with the odds stacked against them, a short-handed Oregon Tech side left no doubt in an incredible display on Friday evening.

Kennedy Tull, Olivia Sprague, Kristin Farrell, Courtney Bennett and Carissa Twitchell took the floor and came through when Scott Meredith needed them most.

In a lineup consisting of only one player who has started in a game this season, Tech controlled the tempo from start to finish.

In the 1st quarter, Tech jumped out to an early 12-4 lead, shocking the fans in attendance.

After a hot start, Corban embarked on a big run of their own, going up 17-12 to quiet the Owl faithful.

Tech would halt the Corban run and close the quarter with a strong defensive effort to cut their deficit to 19-17.

In the second period, Tech would pull away.

The Lady Owls ramped up their defense and slowed down their offense getting great looks and limiting the Lady Warriors to 3-of-16 shooting.

OIT would outscore Corban 20-7 in the second quarter which allowed them to grab a 37-26 lead at the break.

After a much needed breather at the break, Tech was able to hold off Corban despite being outscored in each of the final two quarters.

The Lady Owls were paced by a career-outing from freshman duo Kennedy Tull and Olivia Sprague that was essential to their victory.

Tull scored a career-high 28 points on 10-of-18 shooting and Olivia Sprague scored a career-high 18 points on 7-of-21 shooting.

Carissa Twitchell also picked up a career-high as the sophomore post racked up 11 rebounds.

Courtney Bennett would wrap up the lineup, leading the team in assists with four.

Holly Golenor led the Lady Warriors with 18 points and 10 rebounds in defeat.

Oregon Tech's women's basketball team only had five players eligible to play Friday night due to COVID issues but will not compete in Saturday's contest with Bushnell University.

Per CCC guidelines, if a school must stop play because of COVID-19 outbreak, cannot field a full team or elects not to participate, then forfeits shall be awarded for any game(s) that a school misses while unable to play.

The Owls and Beacons were set to tip off at 3: 00 p.m. on Saturday. The men's game is still set to tip off at 5:00 p.m.
