ROCKLIN, Calif, - Injuries and woeful shooting plagued Tech's season opener on Friday afternoon, in a 46-67 loss to Menlo College. #13 Tech (0-1) shot 15-50 from the field, which couldn't keep them up with Menlo (2-0) who shot 27-61.
Â
"All the credit to Menlo," said head coach
Justin Parnell. "They are tough, well coached and disciplined. We obviously didn't have our best stuff offensively but a lot of that had to do with the way Menlo guarded us. I thought we were really good defensively just gave up a few too many offensive rebounds. We look forward to getting back out there and competing tomorrow."
Â
In the first half, Tech played Menlo pretty tough, as their defense kept it a 24-33 game after the first 20 minutes.
Â
Tech was shooting nearly 40% from the field, and were aggressive inside, getting to the line 11 times.
Â
Unfortunately, the second half is where their struggles got the best of them, shooting 7-29, barely 25% from the field.
Â
The Hustlin' Owls were doing all they could on the defensive end to keep Menlo at bay, but ultimately the poor shooting couldn't pull them back in.
Â
Menlo shot nearly 50% from the field in the second half and dominated the points in the paint (32-14) to bury the Owls.
Â
Tech was led by
Garret Albrecht who had 12 points on 50% shooting.
Â
Tech will look to bounce back tomorrow against William Jessup in the final game of the Bill Holtz Classic at 6:00 p.m.Â
